Leafs Next Trade Revealed?
Could the Toronto Maple Leafs have a trade lined up with the New York Islanders?
Is the Toronto Maple Leafs next trade target revealed?
New York Islanders /NHL beat reporter for NHL.com Stefen Rosner tweeted tonight during the San Jose Sharks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs game that the New York Islanders had scouts in the building. Rosner reported that the Maple Leafs are looking for defence and that the club inquired about Scott Mayfield last season and says that the two clubs have stayed in touch.
Mayfield 34, has played in two games this season. He has had trouble finding a way into the lineup as he has been a healthy scratch and will be once again as the Islanders host the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday night. It would mark six out of eight games this season.
A trade that makes sense for both clubs could be Toronto sending Dakota Joshua and a pick to the Islanders for Mayfield and a pick as it would give both players a fresh start as the Islanders add offence in Joshua and the Leafs get much needed help on the backend with Mayfield.
Joshua hasn't played a game for the Leafs season due to injury and has one more year on his contract before becoming a UFA in 2028. Toronto acquired Joshua in 2025. In the 2025-26 Joshua played in 55 games putting up 10 goals, and eight assists for a total of 18 points.
