Potential Pieces For The Flames to Acquire
In their pivot toward younger roster pieces and draft picks, the Leafs don't have the premium draft pick capital to offer at least in terms of the first round in the next two years. The Flames could in addition to looking to acquire draft picks could add a younger roster piece or prospect like potentially one or multiple of Ben Danford, Tinus Luc Koblar or Miroslav Holinka. It seems highly unlikely a player the caliber of Easton Cowan who could be on the table in a deal with the Flames. The Flames could also bolster the core with additional draft picks in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Additional Flames For The Leafs to Acquire
The Leafs if they were to expand the scope of the deal could look to acquire some other players from the Flames. The Leafs could look to acquire Connor Zary or potentially Morgan Frost or perhaps if they took a really big swing a guy like Matt Coronato. If I were in John Chayka's shoes, the guys I would be looking to acquire with Whitecloud would be Zary and Coronato. It helps bolster the back end and helps with the goal scoring and the forward depth. Matt Coronato is a younger player with some goal scoring chops who has been previously discussed in rumours to be moved. Whereas Connor Zary has already passed through waivers.
Potential Deal
The trade could look something like Zach Whitecloud and Matt Coronato coming to Toronto in exchange for Miroslav Holinka, Ben Danford, Jake McCabe and Miles Wood to help offset from the salary cap perspective with a draft pick or two added in for more future value. None would probably be in the first or second round but could be later on done the line and help fortify the stable of prospects the Flames have while bolstering the Leafs in the now.
