Trade Rumours Now Escalating... (and I hate it)

Should the Toronto Raptors trade for Karl-Anthony Towns? The Sporting News just predicted the Raptors trade for the Knicks' $220 million big man, and the KAT to Toronto trade ideas are everywhere. On the court, Towns fits: the Raptors got outrebounded 49 to 34 by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jakob Poeltl is down to 5.3 rebounds a game, and Towns brings 21 points and 12 rebounds a game plus floor spacing next to Scottie Barnes. Ben Rogers breaks it all down.

But every Karl-Anthony Towns trade package falls apart. The Raptors are hard capped at the first apron after the Kawhi Leonard trade, with $963,598 of room. The New York Knicks are under the second apron and can't take back more salary than they send. That leaves a $1 million trade window. I break down every version of the Raptors Knicks trade: Scottie Barnes for Towns, RJ Barrett, Jakob Poeltl and Ja'Kobe Walter, Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett, and the only legal deal, which costs Ja'Kobe Walter and Allen Graves. Then the Raptors' 2027-28 bill, Towns' $61 million player option and his extension standoff with the Knicks, and my verdict on whether Bobby Webster and the Raptors should make the trade before the February trade deadline.
