The Chargers Are Making RISKY Decisions...

🚨 CHARGERS NEWS! Today, Andrew McFarland breaks down Jim Harbaugh's decision to keep Mike McDaniel calling plays for the Los Angeles Chargers offense after the bye week. The Chargers are 0-6 after a 22-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and The Athletic reported on Oct. 28 that Harbaugh will stay with McDaniel, even as the team considers simplifying the offense.

Chargers Digest breaks down what Harbaugh said, how Justin Herbert and McDaniel responded, and The Athletic column that points to GM Joe Hortiz's roster as the bigger problem. Is the issue the play-caller, the quarterback, or the offensive line?

🏈 HARBAUGH KEEPS MCDANIEL CALLING PLAYS
Per The Athletic's Noah Furtado, Harbaugh said he is very confident in McDaniel and that the team looked at every part of the offense during the bye. Harbaugh has never called plays himself. Why did Jim Harbaugh keep Mike McDaniel as the Chargers' play-caller? Will the Chargers offense get simpler? How many points per game are the Chargers averaging?

🏈 HARBAUGH GAVE MCDANIEL FULL CONTROL
Harbaugh's public stance on McDaniel has moved from "not in jeopardy" after the 0-3 start, to "the process is ongoing" on Oct. 19, to keeping him in place on Oct. 28. In January, McDaniel said it was critical not to rely too heavily on Herbert doing above and beyond. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said on Sept. 27 that McDaniel's offense is incredibly complex. Is Mike McDaniel's offense too complex for Justin Herbert?

🏈 JUSTIN HERBERT DEFENDS MIKE MCDANIEL
According to a post from Alex Insdorf, Herbert said the criticism of McDaniel is not his fault and called the bye week useful. McDaniel said he watched about four hours of film with Herbert and that the team has to produce results. Herbert's QBR is 29.3 this season, compared with 60.6 last season, and he has thrown an interception in all six games. Is it Justin Herbert's fault or Mike McDaniel's?

🏈 THE ATHLETIC BLAMES JOE HORTIZ
In a column, Furtado argues the offense was built poorly before McDaniel arrived. According to the column, Herbert has been hit 279 times under Harbaugh and Hortiz, 30 more than any other quarterback. Rashawn Slater, Trey Pipkins and Trevor Penning are on injured reserve, and center Tyler Biadasz is out for the season. Is the offensive line the real problem for the Chargers offense?
