Devon Levi Is Becoming The Answer in the Oilers Crease
Oilers goalie shines in triumphant victory over Los Angeles
Oilers Goalie Devon Levi stopped 39 of 40 shots and posted a 0.975 Save Percentage this past Tuesday, improving his record on the season to a perfect 4-0. Outside of a shaky performance against the Vancouver Canucks in his first game, Levi has been outstanding all season, seemingly ending what seemed to be Edmonton's endless search for a quality starting goaltender.
During the offseason, Edmonton knew they needed to make a change in between the pipes, which resulted in the acquisitions of Frederik Anderson and Devon Levi. Unfortunately, Anderson went down with an injury during training camp that is scheduled to sideline him until at least December, meaning the Oilers are now forced to rely on recently acquired and heavily criticized Tristan Jarry, and newcomer Devon Levi to start the season. Jarry was scheduled to be the team's starter before the season kicked off; however, Jarry has appeared in just two games thus far, struggling mightily out of the gate, allowing six goals against just 23 shots against Vancouver, and has only started one game since.Although it's not entirely clear whether Levi will remain Edmonton's go-to guy once Anderson returns from injury, he is certainly making a case for himself.
Levi will get the nod on Thursday night at home against the Utah Mammoth, with a chance to establish an even bigger lead in this goaltending battle.
