Phillies Fit For Hernandez Called Safe But Low Ceiling

A proposed Hernandez-to-Philadelphia swap for right-handed reliever Chase Shugart is framed as the safe floor of the market. Shugart posted a 4.02 ERA in 53 2/3 innings this year with strikeouts jumping from 6.2 to 9.9 per nine, but Philadelphia optioned him to Triple-A three separate times. The fit works because the Phillies' lineup leans left-handed and Hernandez still posted a .907 OPS against lefties.
